Pursuing A Dream Versus Making Money

We live in a society that tells us we must choose between making money and pursuing our dreams. Too often, people believe that they don’t even really have a choice – that they must give up what they’re passionate about in order to make a living. I’m here to tell you that you can do both.

Maybe someone who has a dream to be an astronaut couldn’t find a creative way to turn it into a living, but as a comic book enthusiast, you can get creative! Work on your own art, self-publish it, promote it using the internet and you may just find a larger following than you thought.

There are also jobs within the industry that you may not have thought of. For example, perhaps you could make a living as an editor of comic books. Plenty of people want to be comic book artists, but they lack the vision that you have. They create the best version they can, but they’re willing to pay someone more qualified to take a look and give them advice and guidance on how to make it better.

Perhaps you could get involved in the promotional side. If you’re an expert on comics, you could write blog posts just like this for any number of websites. You could work for a social networking team that strives to reach potential customers through social media sites. Or perhaps you can simply work in the marketing department, and come up with innovate ad ideas.

The bottom line is that no one can stop you from making a living in the comic book world – except for you. If you are truly passionate and committed, then you must be willing to do whatever it takes to get your foot in the door, and eventually enjoy a lucrative and fulfilling career as a comic book artist.
